ISLAMABAD, July 11, 2026 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday called for preserving the “hard-earned” peace achieved in the Middle East, urging all parties to exercise restraint during a telephone conversation with Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Shehbaz expressed deep concern over the recent escalation in regional tensions and stressed the need to restore peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy.
The prime minister emphasized the importance of honouring commitments made under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), describing it as an enduring framework for promoting mutual understanding, regional peace and shared prosperity.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution, assuring Iran that Islamabad would continue playing a constructive role in promoting regional stability.
President Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for peace and thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and other Pakistani leaders for attending the funeral ceremony of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The two leaders also reviewed progress on decisions taken during President Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Pakistan and agreed to accelerate cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz held a telephone conversation with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, expressing solidarity with the people of Qatar and thanking the Gulf state for supporting Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts that led to the Islamabad MoU.
The prime minister reiterated the importance of dialogue, restraint and diplomacy to safeguard regional peace and stability.
