ISLAMABAD, Jul 13 (Alliance News): Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir arrived in Turkiye on Monday on a two-day official visit aimed at further strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and discussing regional security issues.
According to state media, citing security sources, Field Marshal Munir was warmly received upon his arrival and is scheduled to hold a series of high-level meetings with Turkiye’s military and political leadership during his visit.
The discussions are expected to focus on matters of mutual interest, regional security developments, and avenues for enhancing defence collaboration between the two brotherly countries.
The visit comes a month after Commander of the Turkish Land Forces General Metin Tokel visited Pakistan, where he held talks with Field Marshal Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the two military leaders discussed professional matters, the evolving regional security environment, and opportunities to further expand bilateral defence cooperation.
During his visit to Pakistan, General Tokel also called on Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, where both sides reviewed issues of professional interest and exchanged views on the regional maritime security environment.
The Turkish commander also met Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu at Air Headquarters to discuss bilateral military cooperation and other professional matters.
The ISPR had stated that General Tokel appreciated the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged their role in promoting regional peace and stability.
Pakistan and Turkiye enjoy longstanding strategic and defence relations, with regular exchanges of high-level military delegations, joint training programmes, defence production cooperation and collaboration on regional and international security issues.
