ISLAMABAD, Aug 04 (Alliance News): Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff Syed Asim Munir on Tuesday reaffirmed that the Armed Forces of Pakistan remain fully prepared to support the civil administration and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in relief, rescue and rehabilitation operations during the ongoing monsoon season.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Asim Munir visited the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) at the NDMA headquarters, where he received a comprehensive briefing on Pakistan’s disaster preparedness and coordinated response arrangements.
During the visit, the army chief appreciated the NDMA’s efforts to strengthen the country’s disaster management capacity and highlighted the importance of operational readiness, effective inter-agency coordination and a swift response to safeguard lives and critical infrastructure.
The NDMA chairman briefed the army chief on the operational capabilities of the NEOC and its technology-driven response mechanisms, including the “Disaster Lens 2026” platform, which provides real-time monitoring of the ongoing monsoon situation and other potential hazards across the country.
The visit comes as authorities continue to respond to flooding triggered by recent heavy rains in several parts of Pakistan.
Officials at a recent meeting of the Emergency Response Committee (ERC) said coordinated relief operations were underway through federal, provincial and district administrations. They also warned that rainfall is expected to continue over northern and central parts of the country in the coming days, while isolated showers are likely in southeastern Sindh.
The committee noted that most fatalities during the current monsoon season resulted from the collapse of unsafe and poorly constructed buildings, underscoring the need for stricter enforcement of building safety regulations and enhanced public awareness.
