Balochistan govt issues public notice on commission probing Ziarat tragedy

QUETTA, Aug 17 (Alliance News): The Balochistan government has issued a public notice regarding the judicial commission constituted to conduct an independent inquiry into the Ziarat tragedy, directing all concerned individuals and parties to submit relevant information and details to the commission.

According to the public notice, the provincial government established the inquiry commission to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the facts related to the tragedy. Justice Muhammad Amir Nawaz Rana has been appointed as head of the commission.

The commission will examine around 12 key points as part of its inquiry. The government has directed all relevant persons, departments and other concerned parties to provide their details and information to the commission’s secretariat.

The notice said that interested and concerned parties could submit their information and relevant material by August 28, 2026, during official working hours.

It added that the dates, timings and venues for subsequent proceedings of the commission would be announced separately at a later stage.

The judicial inquiry comes following the deadly terrorist attack in Balochistan in which at least nine police personnel were martyred.

The attack took place on July 7, 2026, in the Mangi Phase III area of Quetta, where terrorists targeted police personnel. The incident prompted a major security response as police and other security personnel engaged the attackers.

According to officials, an intense exchange of fire continued throughout the night. Police officers put up strong resistance and fought the attackers for several hours before the operation came to an end.

The Deputy Commissioner of Ziarat said the police personnel demonstrated courage and resisted the attackers despite facing a serious security threat.

Authorities had also launched efforts to trace five missing policemen following the attack. Search and security operations continued as officials sought to determine the whereabouts of the missing personnel and establish the complete sequence of events surrounding the incident.

The establishment of the judicial commission is aimed at providing an independent mechanism to examine the tragedy, including the circumstances leading up to the attack, the response of law-enforcement agencies and other relevant aspects identified in the commission’s terms of reference.

The commission is expected to examine available records, statements and other evidence before reaching its findings and submitting recommendations to the provincial government.

The inquiry could also help identify any administrative, operational or security shortcomings and determine whether additional measures are required to strengthen the protection of police and other security personnel in vulnerable areas.

The Balochistan government has urged all concerned individuals and institutions to cooperate with the commission and provide complete and accurate information within the stipulated timeframe.

Further proceedings of the commission will be conducted according to the schedule to be announced by its secretariat.

The government is expected to take further action after the commission submits its findings and recommendations.
