Imran Khan’s eye vision ‘almost returned to normal’ after treatment: Adiala jail report

Islamabad, Aug 17 (Alliance News): Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s affected eye has “almost regained normal vision” following treatment by ophthalmologists in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, according to a medical report submitted to the Supreme Court on Monday.

The two-page report, submitted by the superintendent of Adiala Jail, contains details about Khan’s health, medical examinations and meetings with visitors during his imprisonment.

The 73-year-old PTI founder has remained in prison since August 2023 following convictions that he and his party describe as politically motivated. He has faced several legal cases since his removal from office in April 2022, while some convictions have been suspended or overturned and other appeals remain pending.

Khan was previously diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a serious eye condition, according to a report submitted to the Supreme Court earlier this year.

The latest report said jail medical officers monitor Khan’s food and drinks three times a day and conduct regular medical check-ups. It added that several government doctors had examined him, with records of the consultations maintained by the jail authorities.

A summary of 39 medical check-ups by different specialists conducted between November 4, 2023 and August 10, 2026 was also included in the report.

According to the report, Khan received treatment from leading ophthalmologists in Islamabad and Rawalpindi for his eye condition, with one of his eyes having almost returned to normal.

The report further stated that Khan and his wife have been meeting every Tuesday in accordance with jail rules, with 84 meetings held so far.

It also noted that Khan’s lawyer, Salman Safdar, met him on February 10 and April 4, 2026.

The jail superintendent’s report referred to an assurance given by Salman Akram Raja before the Islamabad High Court that he would not speak to the media inside the jail premises after meeting Khan.

According to the report, the court order was subsequently violated when media interactions were held following meetings with the PTI founder.

The report also alleged that meetings at the jail were being used to stir public sentiment against the judiciary, foreign policy and law enforcement agencies.

A three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed is scheduled to hear the case concerning Khan’s health and meetings on Tuesday.
