PM lauds UN envoy Mohamed Yahya’s contribution to Pakistan-UN ties

ISLAMABAD, Aug 19 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday appreciated the contribution of UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Pakistan Mohamed Yahya to strengthening Pakistan-UN cooperation during his tenure.

Yahya paid a farewell call on the prime minister, who thanked him for the UN Country Team’s continued support for Pakistan’s development and humanitarian priorities, including climate resilience, sustainable development and disaster response.

The prime minister recalled the United Nations’ role in mobilising international support for Pakistan, particularly following the devastating 2022 floods.

Shehbaz congratulated Yahya on his appointment as Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator at the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), describing it as recognition of his experience and commitment.

He wished Yahya success in his new assignment and expressed confidence that Pakistan’s close partnership with the United Nations would continue to grow.

Yahya thanked the prime minister for his appreciation and expressed gratitude for the cooperation extended by the government to him and the UN Country Team during his tenure.

He reaffirmed the United Nations’ continued commitment to supporting Pakistan’s development and humanitarian agenda.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, SAPM Syed Tariq Fatemi and other senior government officials were also present.
