ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken “strict notice” of the arrival of Islamabad’s chief commissioner and Inspector General of Police (IGP) at an official August 14 ceremony in a horse-drawn carriage.
The prime minister expressed disappointment and disapproval over the incident, following which the Establishment Division issued separate written warnings to the two senior officials.
According to the warnings, the officials’ arrival in the horse-drawn carriage created an impression of privilege and showiness and was considered inconsistent with the standards expected from senior public servants.
Establishment Division issues warnings
The Establishment Division said government officials hold their positions in trust on behalf of the public and are expected to demonstrate humility, restraint, dignity and sound judgment while performing their official responsibilities.
The division warned that conduct perceived as displaying privilege could undermine public confidence in government institutions.
It stressed that senior government officials are required to maintain appropriate standards of behaviour, particularly when attending official events.
The officials were also reminded that their conduct should reflect the principles of public service and the responsibilities attached to their positions.
PM directs officials to exercise caution
According to the official documents, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed both officials to exercise greater caution while performing their duties.
The prime minister also instructed them not to repeat such conduct in the future.
The Establishment Division subsequently directed the officials to comply fully with the prime minister’s instructions.
The development highlights the government’s emphasis on maintaining discipline and a modest public image among senior officials, particularly at official ceremonies.
