Pakistan, Kuwait sign new pact to expand military cooperation

ISLAMABAD, Aug 28 (Alliance News): Pakistan and Kuwait on Thursday signed a new defence agreement aimed at expanding military cooperation between the two countries, including training, capacity building and border management.

The “Protocol Agreement-2026” was signed in Islamabad by Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Kuwaiti Minister of Defence Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Saleem Al-Sabah, according to the Ministry of Defence.

The new agreement strengthens the existing framework established under the Defence Cooperation Agreement-2023.

The Kuwaiti defence minister led a high-level delegation during his visit to Pakistan and held talks with his Pakistani counterpart on bilateral defence relations, security cooperation and ways to further strengthen military ties.

The Ministry of Defence said the two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, with particular focus on bilateral defence relations and security cooperation.

Under the new agreement, the Armed Forces of Pakistan will provide assistance to the Armed Forces of Kuwait in various areas, including training, capacity building, border management and other mutually agreed fields of defence cooperation.

The ministry said the agreement reflected the “deep trust, mutual respect and shared strategic interests” between the two countries.

Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening their defence partnership in support of mutual security, regional peace and stability.

Earlier, the Kuwaiti delegation met Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, regional security and bilateral defence cooperation, ISPR said.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening institutional ties and expanding mutually beneficial defence cooperation between Pakistan and Kuwait.

The Kuwaiti delegation appreciated the professionalism and operational capabilities of the Pakistan Armed Forces, as well as their contributions to regional peace and stability.

The meetings reaffirmed the resolve of Pakistan and Kuwait to further consolidate their longstanding relations into an enduring defence partnership aimed at promoting regional security and stability.
