ISLAMABAD, Sep 12 (Alliance News): More than 227,000 citizens have fallen victim to cyber fraud across Pakistan over the past three years, losing more than Rs8.32 billion, according to a report based on data from the concerned department.
The report said a total of 227,757 complaints of cyber fraud were recorded during the period.
According to sources, 83,080 people were cheated in 2024, while another 76,686 citizens fell victim to cyber fraud in 2025.
In 2026, 68,034 people have reportedly become victims of cyber fraud so far, sources said.
The victims also included parliamentarians and other notable individuals. Opposition parliamentarian Sahibzada Hamid Raza was reportedly defrauded of Rs490,000, while Senator Falak Naz Chitrali lost Rs485,000 and Bilal Ahmed Mandokhel Rs403,000.
Senator Niaz Ahmed was defrauded of Rs30,000, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly member Shahla Bano reportedly lost Rs370,000. Another KP Assembly member, Asif Khan, was defrauded of Rs970,000.
Overall, cyber fraudsters reportedly stole Rs2.7498 million from six parliamentarians.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) recovered the money stolen from Senator Falak Naz Chitrali, Bilal Ahmed Mandokhel and Senator Niaz Ahmed, according to the report.
A PML-N MNA from Vehari, Syed Sajid Mehdi, has also reportedly fallen victim to cyber fraud.
The report said thousands of ordinary citizens continue to be targeted by fraudsters, with victims often losing amounts ranging from Rs2,000 to Rs20,000.
The figures highlight the growing scale of cyber-enabled financial fraud in Pakistan and the need for stronger public awareness and effective measures to protect citizens from online scams.
