LAHORE, Aug 18 (Alliance News): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a three-day Basant festival in Lahore from March 12 to 14, 2027, following what she described as the successful return of the traditional kite-flying festival last year.
In a post on X, CM Maryam said Lahore would once again come alive with colour, culture, festivity, music, energy and its renowned hospitality during Basant 2027.
Addressing the youth across Punjab and Pakistan, she said the celebration was for them and urged them to come together, create memories and make Lahore shine with their energy and spirit.
She also invited overseas Pakistanis and international guests to mark their calendars and return to Lahore to enjoy the colours and festivities of the city.
“Insha’Allah, together we will make Basant 2027 another great success and a celebration to remember!” the chief minister said.
Maryam also told the Pakistani diaspora that Lahore would be waiting to welcome them to the special event.
Basant returns to Lahore after two decades
Lahore hosted its first Basant festival in more than two decades in February 2026 after the Punjab government lifted a long-standing ban on kite flying.
The three-day festivities were held under strict safety regulations and brought a festive atmosphere to the provincial capital, with roads and streets decorated with lights and rooftop gatherings continuing late into the night.
The Punjab government had introduced several measures to facilitate residents and visitors during the celebrations, including a free transport service.
The return of Basant attracted large crowds and revived one of Lahore’s most popular cultural traditions.
Two million use transport facility
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb had described the successful Basant celebrations as a victory for Lahore and Pakistan and said an even more vibrant festival would be held the following year.
She said around two million people used the free transport facility during the three-day celebrations, while around one million vehicles entered Punjab.
The provincial government is expected to continue implementing safety and regulatory measures for Basant 2027 as Lahore prepares for another major cultural celebration.
