ISLAMABAD, Aug 14 (Alliance News): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar on Friday met British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott and appreciated the positive momentum in Pakistan-United Kingdom relations while reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to dialogue and diplomacy for resolving regional issues.
The meeting took place in Islamabad on Pakistan’s 80th Independence Day, where both sides reviewed the state of bilateral relations and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, according to an official statement issued by the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office.
During the meeting, Dar recalled his recent interaction with the UK Foreign Secretary during the ASEAN Regional Forum held in Manila and underscored the importance of sustained high-level engagements to further deepen Pakistan-UK relations.
The two dignitaries discussed a wide range of issues, including political engagement, economic cooperation, trade, investment and other matters of shared interest aimed at expanding the longstanding partnership between the two countries.
They also exchanged views on recent regional and international developments.
During the discussion, the deputy prime minister stressed that the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) should be implemented by all concerned parties in both letter and spirit.
He reiterated Pakistan’s consistent position that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable means to address outstanding disputes and promote lasting regional peace and stability.
Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to constructive engagement and peaceful resolution of issues through diplomatic channels, emphasizing that sustainable peace could only be achieved through mutual understanding and cooperation.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott conveyed warm felicitations to the government and people of Pakistan on the country’s 80th Independence Day.
She extended her best wishes for Pakistan’s continued peace, stability and prosperity while reaffirming the United Kingdom’s commitment to maintaining strong and productive relations with Pakistan.
Pakistan and the United Kingdom enjoy longstanding diplomatic, economic and people-to-people ties, with cooperation spanning trade, education, climate change, development, security and parliamentary exchanges.
