GILGIT, July 6 (Alliance News): Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Amjad Hussain Advocate was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday following his party’s victory in the 2026 Gilgit-Baltistan elections.
The oath was administered by Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Syed Mehdi Shah during a ceremony held in Gilgit, attended by political leaders, government officials, and party workers.
Addressing the ceremony, Chief Minister Amjad Hussain said the PPP had emerged as the largest political party in the June 7 regional elections, attributing the victory to the trust and support of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
He praised the active participation of youth and women in the electoral process, saying their role had been instrumental in the party’s success.
“I thank the people who gave the Pakistan Peoples Party such overwhelming support in the elections,” he said.
The newly elected chief minister said the public had once again placed its confidence in the PPP, describing the relationship between the party and the people of Gilgit-Baltistan as one that spans generations.
He noted that the PPP had secured a strong mandate in Diamer for the first time, calling it a significant political achievement.
Amjad Hussain also thanked the PPP leadership for its continued support and expressed appreciation to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for facilitating the formation of the new provincial government.
Elected unopposed after no other candidate submitted nomination papers for the post, Amjad Hussain becomes the fifth Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan. He was elected to the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly from the GBA-1 constituency and also serves as President of the PPP Gilgit-Baltistan chapter.
The new chief minister pledged to uphold the public mandate and work for the development, prosperity, and welfare of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
