Putin calls Pakistan a sovereign nation, supports diplomacy on Iran & Ukraine

MOSCOW, June 5 (Alliance News): Russian President Vladimir Putin has described Pakistan as a large and sovereign country that pursues an independent foreign policy, while expressing support for diplomatic solutions to regional and international conflicts, including tensions involving Iran and the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Speaking to international media during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, President Putin responded to a question regarding Pakistan and emphasized that the country is not subordinate to any other state.

“Pakistan is a large sovereign country and is not subordinate to anyone,” Putin said, underscoring the importance of respecting the independence and sovereignty of nations in international affairs.

The Russian leader also expressed hope that the United States and Iran would be able to reach a mutually acceptable agreement through dialogue. He noted that Russia supports diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and facilitating understanding between the two countries.

“We hope that the United States and Iran will reach an agreement. Russia also supports a US-Iran understanding and believes diplomacy remains the best path forward,” he said.

Addressing broader geopolitical developments, Putin reiterated Russia’s readiness to pursue a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. He stated that Moscow remains open to negotiations and diplomatic engagement aimed at ending hostilities.

The Russian president said Russia has maintained close cooperation with China in various fields, including defense and military affairs, and intends to continue that cooperation in the future. He stressed that Russia-China cooperation is not directed against any country but is based on mutual interests and shared strategic objectives.

“We have always cooperated with China in the military sphere and will continue to do so. We are not working against anyone; we are working for our mutual interests,” Putin said.

Discussing relations with India, Putin said growing ties between India and the United States have never created obstacles in Russia’s relationship with New Delhi. He reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding partnership with India.

The Russian president also spoke about developments in Ukraine, claiming that Russian forces continue to make advances and that Ukrainian forces are facing significant personnel shortages. He asserted that Russia currently exercises full control over the Luhansk region and claimed Russian forces had recently captured approximately 2,440 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory.

Putin further stated that Ukraine is facing shortages of missiles and other military equipment, while reiterating Moscow’s willingness to pursue a negotiated settlement.

Referring to recent remarks by US President Donald Trump regarding possible agreements, Putin said Russia is prepared for dialogue and compromise if all parties demonstrate a similar commitment to peace.

“Russia is ready for a peaceful deal with Ukraine. Compromise is necessary for achieving a lasting settlement,” he said.

The Russian leader also revealed that communication channels between Russian and European intelligence services remain active despite ongoing political tensions between Moscow and several Western capitals.

On energy cooperation, Putin said Germany would ultimately need to decide whether to resume receiving Russian natural gas through the Nord Stream pipeline system. He added that Russia remains ready to supply gas to Germany if such a decision is made.

The remarks came amid continuing international attention on the conflicts in Ukraine, evolving geopolitical alliances and ongoing diplomatic efforts involving major global powers.
