QUETTA, Sep 09 (Alliance News): Security forces have eliminated 11 India-sponsored militants in separate intelligence-based operations in Kharan and Washuk districts of Balochistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday.
According to the military’s media wing, the operations were conducted on September 6 and 7 after intelligence reports indicated the presence of terrorists affiliated with the Indian proxy Fitna al-Hindustan.
In Kharan, terrorists attempted to establish a roadblock and disrupt local traffic on September 6. Security forces swiftly intercepted the militants and engaged them, killing eight terrorists, the ISPR said.
In a separate intelligence-based operation in Washuk district on September 7, security forces targeted a reported militant hideout.
“Own troops effectively busted the hideout and, following an intense exchange of fire, killed three more terrorists,” the ISPR said.
Security forces also recovered 2.9 tonnes of explosives from the hideout, which were being used to prepare improvised explosive devices (IEDs), according to the statement.
Sanitisation operations were continuing in the areas to eliminate any other India-sponsored militants who might still be present, the ISPR said.
The military said the counter-terrorism campaign under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” initiative, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, would continue with full pace.
The campaign aims to eliminate the threat of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from Pakistan, it added.
Pakistan has witnessed a rise in terrorist activities, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since 2021, when the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan.
According to a report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), KP and Balochistan remained the country’s main hotspots for violence during the second quarter of 2026, with KP recording the highest number of fatalities.
The report said the two provinces accounted for nearly 96% of all violence-related fatalities recorded during the quarter.
More than 61%, or 475, of the total deaths were reported in KP, while Balochistan accounted for 34%, or 265 fatalities.
KP also recorded the highest number of violent incidents, with 151 cases, representing 57% of the nationwide total. Balochistan followed with 94 incidents, or 35%, highlighting the concentration of militant activity in the two provinces.
