ISLAMABAD, July 4 (Alliance News): The United States Embassy in Islamabad on Thursday hosted a grand reception to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States, with US Chargé d’Affaires to Pakistan Natalie A. Baker highlighting the remarkable progress in bilateral relations and expressing confidence that the future of the Pakistan-US partnership is brighter than ever.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the event as the chief guest, while members of the federal cabinet, parliamentarians, diplomats, senior military officials, business leaders, academics and representatives of civil society also participated in the ceremony held at the US Embassy.
The reception celebrated not only the 250-year journey of the United States since the adoption of the Declaration of Independence but also the enduring and evolving relationship between Pakistan and the United States, a partnership that has spanned more than eight decades.
Opening the ceremony, Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker reflected on the significance of America’s founding ideals and the values that have guided the United States throughout its history.
She said the anniversary offered an opportunity to celebrate freedom, democracy, resilience and innovation while also recognizing the strong partnerships the United States has developed around the world, including with Pakistan.
Baker described the current state of Pakistan-US relations as one of growing cooperation and strategic alignment, noting that the relationship has witnessed significant transformation during the past two years.
She said the bilateral partnership is now firmly grounded in mutual respect, shared interests and a common commitment to regional peace, economic growth and international stability.
According to Baker, the leadership of US President Donald Trump has played an important role in strengthening engagement with Pakistan and advancing a practical and results-oriented approach to bilateral cooperation.

She noted that President Trump’s direct engagement with Pakistan’s leadership demonstrated the importance Washington attaches to its relationship with Islamabad and reflected the strong personal and institutional bonds that exist between the two countries.
“The close interaction between the leadership of our two nations reflects a relationship built on trust, understanding and a shared desire to promote peace and prosperity,” Baker said.
The US diplomat emphasized that Pakistan and the United States are working together across a broad spectrum of sectors, including trade, investment, regional security, energy cooperation, technology and education.
She noted that economic ties between the two countries continue to deepen, creating opportunities for businesses, investors and entrepreneurs on both sides.
Baker also highlighted Pakistan’s constructive role in regional diplomacy, particularly its efforts to facilitate engagement between the United States and Iran.

Referring to recent diplomatic developments, she said Pakistan was uniquely positioned to help bridge differences because of its longstanding and productive relationships with both Washington and Tehran.
“Pakistan, by having good ties with both Tehran and Washington, was uniquely positioned to bring two adversaries together. It was Pakistan’s moment, and Pakistan rose to it,” she remarked.
The Chargé d’Affaires praised Pakistan’s diplomatic leadership and commitment to dialogue, saying such efforts contribute positively to regional peace and stability.
She also spoke warmly about her experiences while serving in Pakistan, describing the country as rich in culture, history and diversity.
Recalling her travels across various parts of Pakistan, Baker said she had witnessed firsthand the hospitality and resilience of the Pakistani people.
She specifically mentioned attending the revival of Lahore’s iconic Basant kite festival after nearly two decades and visiting lesser-known communities in interior Sindh, experiences that deepened her appreciation of Pakistan’s social and cultural fabric.
The US diplomat further highlighted the importance of people-to-people contacts in strengthening bilateral relations.
She pointed to educational exchanges, cultural programmes and business partnerships as important pillars of the relationship that continue to bring the people of the two countries closer together.
Baker also underscored the role of sports diplomacy in fostering goodwill and international cooperation.
She noted with pride that Pakistan would play a significant role in the FIFA World Cup 2026 through the manufacture of footballs that will be used in matches across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
According to Baker, such contributions illustrate Pakistan’s integration into global supply chains and demonstrate the potential for expanded economic collaboration in the future.
Concluding her remarks, the US Chargé d’Affaires expressed optimism about the future trajectory of bilateral relations.
“As we enter America’s Golden Age, I genuinely believe the most important chapter of the US-Pakistan partnership has only just begun. The best is yet to come,” she said to sustained applause from the audience.

Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended heartfelt congratulations to President Donald Trump, the US administration and the American people on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan.
The prime minister described the celebration as a historic milestone and said Pakistan joins the United States in commemorating a remarkable journey marked by progress, innovation and global leadership.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that Pakistan and the United States share a relationship that stretches back more than 80 years and has remained resilient despite changing regional and international circumstances.
He recalled that the United States was among the first countries to recognize Pakistan after its independence in 1947, laying the foundation for a partnership that has expanded steadily over the decades.
“Pakistan deeply values its relationship with the United States. Our ties are rooted in history and strengthened by decades of cooperation across numerous sectors,” the prime minister said.
He noted that both countries have collaborated extensively in agriculture, education, health care, economic development, infrastructure and institutional capacity building.

The prime minister highlighted the role of educational exchanges in strengthening bilateral relations, noting that thousands of Pakistani students, scholars and professionals have benefited from academic and training opportunities in the United States.
He said these programmes have contributed significantly to Pakistan’s human resource development and helped create lasting connections between the people of both nations.
Shehbaz Sharif also praised the Pakistani-American community, describing it as a valuable bridge linking Pakistan and the United States.
Approximately one million Pakistanis living in America, he said, have made remarkable contributions in various fields, including science, technology, medicine, education, business and public service.
“The Pakistani diaspora continues to play a vital role in enhancing understanding and cooperation between our two countries,” he said.
The prime minister highlighted contemporary areas of cooperation and stressed that Pakistan and the United States continue to enjoy strong relations in counter-terrorism, trade, investment and regional security.
He noted that both countries have worked together to address common challenges and promote stability in the region.
According to the prime minister, there is substantial potential to further expand cooperation in emerging sectors such as information technology, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, climate resilience and innovation.
He called for building upon existing achievements and exploring new opportunities that can deliver tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
Shehbaz Sharif also praised President Trump for his efforts to promote peace and dialogue on the international stage.
Referring to tensions between Pakistan and India during the previous year, he said President Trump had played a constructive role in helping reduce tensions and encouraging diplomatic engagement.
The prime minister stated that efforts aimed at preventing conflict and promoting dialogue deserve recognition and support from the international community.
Turning to regional diplomacy, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s role as a sincere intermediary between the United States and Iran.
He expressed gratitude to both countries for their confidence in Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to promoting dialogue, understanding and peaceful dispute resolution.
“Pakistan firmly believes that diplomacy remains the most effective tool for addressing complex regional challenges and fostering lasting peace,” he said.
The prime minister also paid tribute to Syed Asim Munir for his leadership and contribution to Pakistan’s efforts aimed at advancing regional peace and stability.
He acknowledged the role of Pakistan’s armed forces in safeguarding national security and supporting initiatives designed to promote peace and development.
Throughout the ceremony, speakers emphasized the importance of strengthening economic partnerships, enhancing trade and investment opportunities, expanding educational exchanges and deepening cooperation in technology and innovation.
The event also served as a platform to celebrate the strong people-to-people ties that have become a defining feature of the Pakistan-US relationship.

Diplomats and officials from both countries agreed that the partnership has evolved considerably over the decades and now encompasses a broad range of strategic, economic and cultural dimensions.
As the evening concluded, participants reflected on the significance of America’s 250th anniversary and the enduring friendship between Pakistan and the United States.
