BISHKEK, Aug 31 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has departed for Kyrgyzstan on a three-day official visit at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit and hold bilateral meetings with participating leaders.
During his visit from August 31 to September 2, the prime minister will address the SCO summit and present Pakistan’s position on key regional and global issues, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Prime Minister Shehbaz is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and senior officials.
According to the Foreign Office, the premier will participate in the SCO Plus Summit and assume Pakistan’s chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for 2026-2027.
On the sidelines of the SCO engagements, Prime Minister Shehbaz will hold bilateral meetings with leaders of participating countries to discuss issues of mutual interest and ways to strengthen cooperation.
He will also attend the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games on August 31.
On September 2, the prime minister is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Zhaparov covering the entire spectrum of Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan relations.
The two sides will review bilateral ties and discuss measures to expand cooperation in trade and investment, energy, regional connectivity, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
The leaders will also exchange views on regional and international developments and discuss cooperation at regional and multilateral forums.
The Foreign Office said Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan enjoy warm and fraternal relations based on shared history, faith and cultural ties, as well as common aspirations for peace, connectivity and prosperity in Central and South Asia.
The visit is expected to provide an opportunity to build on recent high-level exchanges between the two countries, strengthen practical cooperation and further consolidate bilateral relations.
