TEHRAN, Jul 4 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Friday attended the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader and expressed Pakistan’s condolences and solidarity with the Iranian leadership and people during a one-day visit to Tehran.
According to official statements, the prime minister and the field marshal, accompanied by a high-level Pakistani delegation, paid their respects at the coffin of the late Iranian leader before attending the funeral prayers.
Prime Minister Shehbaz paid tribute to the late leader’s services to Islam and Iran, saying he had guided the nation for decades with wisdom, foresight and dedication. He also conveyed Pakistan’s condolences to Iran’s leadership and people, praying for the departed leader’s forgiveness and elevated status.
The prime minister expressed solidarity with Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, President Masoud Pezeshkian and the people of Iran during the period of national mourning.
A parliamentary delegation led by Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, along with members of parliament and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, also participated in the funeral ceremonies.
Separately, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and paid tribute to the late supreme leader’s contributions while reaffirming Pakistan’s support for Iran during this difficult time.
Prime Minister Shehbaz and the Pakistani delegation arrived in Tehran earlier in the day, where they were received at Mehrabad Airport by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and senior Pakistani and Iranian officials.
The prime minister’s delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.
Following the funeral, Prime Minister Shehbaz departed for Istanbul to continue his official visit to Türkiye, where he is scheduled to hold meetings aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and economic ties.
