ISLAMABAD, July 23 (Alliance News): Pakistan and Iran on Wednesday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in security, border management and regional stability during talks between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Iranian counterpart, Eskandar Momeni, in Islamabad.
The meeting took place during Momeni’s three-day official visit to Pakistan, where both sides agreed to deepen collaboration in counterterrorism, counternarcotics, border security, illegal immigration and human smuggling.
The Iranian interior minister was welcomed at the Ministry of Interior with a guard of honour presented by the Federal Constabulary before the two ministers held one-on-one and delegation-level meetings.
According to an official statement, the discussions focused on enhancing institutional coordination to combat terrorism, narcotics trafficking and other cross-border security challenges, particularly along the Pakistan-Iran border.
The two sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation among law enforcement agencies to curb illegal immigration and human smuggling through improved coordination and information sharing.
Speaking after the meeting, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Iran across all sectors.
He also appreciated the efforts of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in promoting peace and expressed optimism that ongoing diplomatic initiatives in the Middle East would contribute to lasting regional peace and stability.
The visit reflects the growing momentum in Pakistan-Iran relations and both countries’ shared resolve to address common security challenges through closer bilateral cooperation.
