Pakistan summons US diplomat over envoy’s remarks on Kashmir

ISLAMABAD, Aug 19 (Alliance News): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday summoned the US Charge d’Affaires in Islamabad and lodged a strong demarche over what it described as factually incorrect remarks by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor regarding the status of Kashmir.

Gor, during a visit to Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), referred to the territory as “an important part of India,” drawing a strong reaction from Pakistan.

The Foreign Office categorically rejected the characterisation of IIOJK as part of India and said the territory remained an internationally recognised disputed territory under international law.

The FO spokesperson said Kashmir’s final status was to be determined in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
